Timber Framing - how it works

Connect
Share your inspiration with us. It could be a finished site plan, or something as vague as a dream or emotional desire. We'll listen, then share with you how we can best support you. If your project is a good fit with our expertise we'll get to work on an initial cost estimate.

Design and Pricing
Our team can create a 3D model and solidify the budget with materials and labor lists. If the timber frame is part of a larger project we'll connect with your contractor/builder to make sure everyone is on the same page. We stick with our specialty of timber framing but can help connect you with a contractor for additional work if needed. We build the beautiful bones of your building - other components such as foundations, roofing, insulation etc are handled by others. Before construction begins we'll have a full 3d model of the finished project.

Construction
With a finished design approved we will source the timber. Our preference is to use local materials whenever possible. The frame is hand cut in our shop in beautiful Homer, Alaska. This means the joinery is cut into the beams and test fit together. We use hand and power tools to create century old joints between the timbers that have proven to stand the test of time. The frame is next transported to the site and can often be 'raised' in just a matter of days, hours for smaller projects such as entryways or sheds.

Enjoy
Your timber frame will have a powerful presence on your property. A testament to the strength and beauty of nature combined with the respect and care of craftsmen.
